1.From Naples: Pompeii Ruins & Mount Vesuvius Day Tour

★★★★★★★★★★4.3 · 11,459 reviews · from $120Our pick

Travel from Naples to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius by minivan or bus, with entry tickets, a guided Pompeii visit, pizza lunch, and one drink included. Guides may include Salvatore, Elisa, Tiziana, or Tony. Expect about 7 to 7.5 hours, a rocky uphill walk, and free time at both sites.

“1.5 hours at the top of Vesuvius was just enough to leisurely walk around and take a dozen photos, no rush. 2.5 hours in Pompeii was plenty, but not nearly enough to see everything. We missed a bit a guide there, but the audioguide was fine and we managed to get around. The complimentary shots if limoncello was a nice 👌 too. Pizza was delicious.”

★★★★★★★★★★4.8 · 3,439 reviews · 2 hours · from $53

Guides such as Luciano, Diego, Teresa, and Angelo are praised for clear storytelling and strong site knowledge. Admission and headsets are included, but transport is not.

“Luciano was an extremely knowledgable and personable guide. He crammed four hours of material into a two hour tour and I felt like I had had all the knowledge I could absorb poured in. His deep knowledge of the site and history was clear and the passion with which he wanted to convey the information with his own books and pictures of the site was clear. Attention! There was no snoozing at the back of the class. Herculaneum is such a compact site but with so much information. With the 2.30 tour and the site closing at 5, there is no time to stroll around after the tour and absorb…”

The day may include hotel pickup, a multilingual guide, Naples traffic, and shopping stops, so expect a long but convenient outing.

“Pompeii was one of my most anticipated and favorite parts of our whole trip, but a lot of things about their tour could have been streamlined. We wasted hours of he day, with very minimal time off the bus, because of how the day was scheduled and sharing a duel-language guide. Pros: comfortable bus, sufficient stops for bathroom/coffee, the Pompeii tour itself was amazing. Cons: half our group was going to Capri, so we had to sit in very heavy Naples traffic to drop them off. The “panoramic tour of Naples” was essentially learning a bit here and there while sitting in the same traffic. It added very little of…”

“We visited Pompeii and Herculaneum on 12th October and joined our English speaking tour guide Vincenzo who was fantastic, and brought to life the famous ruins by being both fun and knowledgeable. You meet in the car park before entering the site at Pompeii and it could have been clearer which tour company they were as there are many around but it didn’t cause too much stress. The English and Italian-speaking staff handle transport and tickets, but this is not a guided archaeological tour. Bring water, lunch, ID, and sturdy shoes.

“We used the audio guide, which was better with your own phone and a QR code at Herculaneum, not so great using the hand held audio guide supplied at Pompeii. The numbers on both do not correlate to the site lay out. We actually had Vesuvius booked as well, although rain prevented our visit there. Despite this, more time would still have been better for Pompeii, considering. Had we visited Vesuvius as well, I suspect we would have been very disappointed with the time allocated to Pompeii. otherwise good value for money. There are snack shops outside Pompeii, vending machines and a cafe at Herculaneum.Read more”
